Saudi-Greek
Interconnection
The electrical interconnection project between Greece and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Saudi-Greek Interconnection) aims to be the first energy bridge between Europe and the Arabian Peninsula to enhance cooperation in the field of energy.
Saudi-Greek Interconnection, a special purpose company, was established in February 2024 as a 50/50 joint venture between Greece’s Independent Power Transmission Operation (IPTO) and Saudi Arabia’s National Grid Company (NG) to conduct the feasibility study of this project.
The new High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) electricity connection between the two countries is expected to offer mutual benefits as it aims to ensure a two-way flow of energy, maximizing the use of renewable energy sources from different climate and geographical zones.
